No, you haven't lost any legal rights. Are there any minor children involved? What is the name of your state? Colorado
Our marriage of 28 years is over. He would not leave the house so I left. Have I lost any legal rights for leaving? And what happens if I should go to another state?
I don't want to make you nervous but it's always a good idea to get all your financial records together before leaving...especially for a long term marriage. Not to mention photos of all your posessions. As far as your teenager...she'll be 18 before you can blink. Custody is pretty much a moot point unless she has any special needs. Get those records safe and sound! What is the name of your state? Colorado

Well...if you count the fact that my boss encourages me to do this while I am at work, in the off season (he considers it good community service), then you could sort of say that I am getting paid for it...LOL. But otherwise, NO.I don't want to make you nervous but it's always a good idea to get all your financial records together before leaving...especially for a long term marriage. Is he right?? Probably not, without knowing the details. If there is no court order barring you from the home, and no restraining order of any kind. You most certainly have the right to retrieve your personal belongings. And probably to continue living there should you choose to do so.I'm smarter than I thought.Took every paper I could get my hands on without knowing I needed to. So, thank you very much for your wonderful advice and for making me look smart.LOL. The husband I left said I am not allowed back into the house. Told the children that too. Is he right?
I've seen that advice a number of times. Since there are children involved, a situation that sometimes arises is that one spouse leaves in the heat of battle. Later, after talking with an attorney, they move back in - to maximize their chances of obtaining custody. Is he right?? Probably not, without knowing the details. Although why anyone would is beyond me.....
If you are concerned for your safety and explain the situation they should, but you may not be able to remove anything if he claims it is his or it is marital...so take photos of everything while you are there...before it disappears...and work it out later rather than risk having a confrontation.I am going to go back to the house to retrieve a personal item.He will not let me back in the house. Do you think the police would escort me there if I asked them to?
