What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
Is there a difference (legally) between stopping past the limit line at an intersection at a red light versus not stopping at all? This occurred in Beverly Hills at a video taped intersection. While the recording shows my car stopping, it is past the crosswalk; I was turning right, so went further than I should have. However, the ticket states "failure to stop at red light." Which I did do, so I need to know if they are different laws. Thanks. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

As far as the statute goes, no. You must stop before the line. You are just as guilty if you shoot through the intersection or stay there straddling the line.

21453 VC.
(a) A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.
