What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin

I have posted a couple other questions re this same situation. If/when probation is given, will the probation officer he is assigned to be in the neighboring county or our county?

How about starting out in the neighboring county and switching?

He'd rather serve the probation in the neighboring county, is it possible to request this pending they automatically switch to our county?

On the subject of gun ownership: The charge is a felony H, can he live in a house where someone else owns hunting guns, in a locked cabinet?

Thanks again, for all the info you've provided thus far!

You will be initially assigned one in whatever county he was convicted in. If he lived elsewhere at the time, most likely he'll get one near home soon. If he is switching residences at all, he should clear it with the PO first to avoid problems (it is almost certainly a condition of his probation).

As far as the gun laws goes, he can live in a house with guns, as long as he's never possessing them (and that includes driving a car with someone else's gun in it).
HOWEVER, during probation the conditions are stricter and he should ask that question
to his PO.
