What is the name of your state? NorthEast Washington DC
Hi everyone,
I'm posting this for a friend of mine.
She had been living with her bf the last 3.5 years in a house in NE DC. This spring, they split. However, they own a house. That is, his name is on the mortgage, but BOTH their names are on the deed.
He wants to sell; she doesn't. He's demanding what we think is an outrageous sum of money... more than 50% of ((assessed value - balance of loan) / 2). To make matters worse, he's also demanding she pay property tax transfers, lawyer fees, etc. They're not taking into account the $25,000 she's put into the house out of her own pocket (has all the receipts to proove it).
She can't afford another house, and thus wants to keep her current one.
She might be able to go to court, but then risks losing everything.
Does anyone have any advice as to what she might be able to do? Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything would be appreciated at this point!
Thanks!
