What is the name of your state?NY

I have been with my company over a year and just this month my employer started taking out workers compensation. THis appears on my pay stub as w/c. i get paid 2 times a month and each check i have 5% of my pay taken out for w/c. Over the course of a year i am paying $1,248 in workers compensation which is 5% of my salary.
I work for an investment banking firm where there is not much chance of injury. Please let meknow if this is legal. thank you
