What is the name of your state? Florida

The Playhouse disney channel has been advertising a new program-Magical Beginnings (August-September). Several popular children's groups would be performing live at MGM Studios (The Wiggles, The Doodlebops, etc.). Concert tickets were free with park admission. My two young children LOVE the Doodebops so I was determined. The only problem was that every concert (other than one) was scheduled during the week. Sunday, August 20th was the only weekend concert. We booked a hotel on Disney property (back in June) and for the two months leading up to the Doodlebops show, we watched them on tv and got so excited! We even brought our babysitter (just incase I would have to wait at the theatre gates for good seats-she could help my husband with the kids). Keep in mind, we had actually been at Disney 2 weeks prior (and again stayed on Disney property so there is record) to enjoy "Disney". This trip in reference had one agenda-taking the kids to see the Doodlebops.

We arrived at MGM Studios on Saturday (the day before the concert) to see another new Playhouse Disney kid's show, Mickey's Magic show. Both my husband and I asked the girls working that ticket station/show, "what will be the proper procedure for tomorrow's Doodlebops show"? I personally asked 5 times and got the same answer each time from several employees (I have a college degree and I am able to process information properly). My husband-same thing. If they told me to be at the MGM gates at 5:00am, I would have been there (that's why we brought our babysitter-just incase). I would do that for my kids (actually did it for The Wiggles the year before in another city). They told me not to bother because it would do no good-tickets aren't being distributed like that. We were told to make sure that we arrive at the ABC Theatre one hour before the show in question (there were 4 shows running that day). We were warned that the tickets will be on a first come first serve basis (seating is gen admin) and that the afternoon shows will be where the crowds are. Fair enough.

The next day we arrived at MGM at around 9:30 am (gates opened at 9:00). My babysitter and husband took the kids, I had my magazines, we had our Nextels, and I went to sit on line. As I arrived the man told me they were sold out. I said (with a smile), "no I am actually here to wait on line for the 1:15pm show, not the 11:15am". He tells me that all of the shows are sold out for the day. They had people waiting since 6:30am and they released all of the tickets for the entire day when the park opened (on a first come first serve basis). How could they do that?

I rushed right over to guest relations where I was greeted by an angry mob of people who had encountered the same or similar problem. Managers were apologizing for the mix up and offering anything they could to quiet people up (I was offered a $200 voucher to Epcots Wine and Food festival-no thank you)! They tried to get us to settle for the next days shows but it was a Monday and everyone had to go back to school and work (Florida school starts August 7th)-not a chance. I demanded a refund of the money I spent on this trip. There were no signs at the gate posted saying "show sold out" (I am sure there was later that day). They let eveyone spend $60/head to enter the park and then told them "sorry". There were so many angry people/so many sad and disappointed kids. They kept asking "what can we do to salvage your day-name it? Anything except the Doodlebops, there's just no room in the theatre". Both of my kids were hysterical crying. We had spent so much time getting excited as a family. How can Disney do this? False advertising? They basically sold tickets to a concert and then apologized for not allowing you in the concert hall (fraud)? Are we not entitled to our (1) resort fee back? (2) park tickets refunded? I have filed a formal complaint (7 days ago) and have heard nothing. Any ideas?

I once waited in line for over 16 hours to get tickets for a Led Zeppelin concert, the last tickets were sold to someone a few folks ahead of me in line. I got over it, you and your kids will too.

Thanks everyone-special note to the Zepplin fan

Ok, I am starting to see a common thread here-it is time for me to get over it (just didn't like getting burned like that-especially from a company where we spend thousands of dollars a year at). I see (now) that this is more of an emotional/pride issue, less of a legal issue (thanks).

For the record though, in regards to the Led Zep tix; my incident is more like you actually got to purchase that last pair of concert tix (the coluseum took your money and gave you tickets); you went home and for a month got your friends all siked up; and then the night of the concert you show up (in your Zepplin tee shirts and all) and they tell you there was just no seating available, "sorry". "Would you like free tickets to see Michael Bolton in concert hall next door"?:)

I mean does that make any sense? Disney actually sold people tickets and then once you were inside they told you, "sorry for the miscommunication, but there is no seating available. Would you like to go to Epcot instead"?

They did not sell you tickets to the Doodlebops show, they sold you admsiion to the park show. You got to go to the park, did you not?

If they had advertised this as a ticket to the Doodlebops and then were refused entry, you might have some chance of a refund. The Doodlebops were just one of the enticements used to allure you. They were not promised to you.

I would, personally, expect an offer from Disney to compensate me for the situation, just the same as you would like . Anything they do give you is in the name of public perception, not legal requirement. I wouldn't expect total comensation (you did get to enjoy other aspects of the park, correct? or at least had the opportunity to do so.) but would have no problem asking for something for future use. Point out the fact of your annual pilgrimmages to ol' Walts' place and the exorbitant amounts of money you spend each time. Maybe they can get you set up with an actual reserved seat for some future event.

Rarely hurts to ask.

Just a word of caution, be careful about getting your children so excited about an event that a situation like this would cause such a problem. Teach them that the world is filled with dissappointments as well as victories and learn how to deal with them. The world is still revolving, the sun still comes up every day and you still get to kiss them goodnight when they go to bed. What could ever be worth more than that?

Disneyworld resolution

Just wanted to thank everyone (again) for listening to my previous complaint regarding MGM Studios. I have since heard from a Disney executive. I took "Justalayman's" advice and went with the humanitarian approach (as opposed to the illegal one). They admitted that they had made an internal operational change at the last minute (i.e. changing the way they would dsitribute the Doodlebop tickets). The lady said it was an operational disaster (ya think). Anyway, they reimbursed me the ticket cost for the babysitter :) and sent 5 free [one day] park tickets (since they ruined our one day at MGM). I am happy (and I heard the Doodlebop show was horribe-heehee).

Thanks again for your words of wisdom. This is really a fun forum (messageboards for smart people-love it)!:D

Apparently the Doodlebops were lipsinking and were not keeping time with the pre-recorded music in the background. The studio was small so it was very visible. They were sweating and out of breath for a 25 minute show. *They were probably great and this particular person didn't want me to feel bad :)

Everyone was right about my kids-they could care less. The Doodlebops are actually playing in Decemeber at a local auditorium here. I asked my kids if they wanted to go (I had access to floor seats and everything) and they said, "no thank you". My daughter's friend saw them in concert last month and told her they were too loud and gave her a headache! Alrighty then!:D

Did they ask you to stay for tea, and have some fun?
