Can they? I went into a salon, had a VERY bad experiance. I posted my experiance to a few online Mom's groups. Well the Salon owner find's out and leaves me a voice mail telling me I am going to be sued for slander.

Can she sue me? I didn;t say anything that wasn't true.

Well she did not do a good job.So I went in and asked her to fix it and she FLIPPED out on me.After she calmed down she told me she wanted to fix it and proceeded to butcher my hair. Nice huh?

So I posted it in some mom's groups and some online reviews. I mean can;t you tell people the bad experiances to?

As long as it's true. You can't go around telling people she rapes puppies in her spare time if it isn't true, but if she did a terrible job on your hair and then behaved like a neurotic freak when you complained...sure, tell the world. She has to prove first that she was damaged in some way from your posts and that what you posted wasn't true.

and to your most basic question; yes, she can sue you. Doesn't mean she'll win, but she can sue you.

this is where I use the line:

"and the truth shall set you free", because the truth is an absolute defense. If it is true, you are not defaming her or slandering her.

Hope you took pictures of the 'doo. Those should be good evidence should she actually sue you.

If she talks with an attorney she won't sue for slander. Chances are better if she sues, that it would be for LIBEL. . . But BREEZE already knows this! :D

I hate it when I am not even close:(

She doesn't say any thing specific. just about her "experience"
and that's the point. Without knowing exactly what was said (among other things) the ONLY correct answer is Yes, the salon can sue her. Hell I could sue her. Whether or not they would win depends on the exact posting among other things.

I did post:
and to your most basic question; yes, she can sue you. Doesn't mean she'll win, but she can sue you.
and that was incorrect??

and since this is what is being discussed:

defamation (of character) n. the act of making untrue statements about another which damages his/her reputation.
Yes, I know the tort involved would be libel rather than slander.

The OP did make the claim that all that was posted was the truth. I accepted the OP at their word and answered based upon that statement.

So technically my post was not factually incorrect. If the posts were true, she still did not defame or slander her. Obviously slander wasn't even on the table since the actual claim would have been libel, so she obviously did not slander the shop owner and if the postings were true, no defamation at all.

Based upon the OP's statements, she did not defame or slander. (or even commit libel)
