What is the name of your state? MN

Years ago at a former employer I documented an idea in a logbook that the company never showed interest in pursuing and to my knowledge never has put any effort forth. Do they own the rights to this idea? Is there a time period where they have to show effort to develop or apply for a patent on this idea?

It is still a good idea and I think it would do well if developed.

If you did the work while an employee of the company, the company owns the rights to the work. You could ask them to give you (or sell you) the rights to the idea so that you could patent it yourself.
