What is the name of your state? Oklahoma
Our son is 15yrs old.
This year he has received 8 referrals... referrals are what a teacher will give
for bad behavoir.
Today Oct 13, 2006 We received a phone call from the principal stating that one
of his teachers had given him a referral for not completing an assignment and
that he had a choice of being suspended or swatted. For not completing an assignment?
The vice principals stance on this is that since he has had so many referrals this year
mostly for hugging or holding hands with his girlfriend, or taking his mp3 player to school.
That every single referral he gets for the rest of the year will be a swat or suspension.
I asked the vice principal if other students who had that many referrals would also be
suspended for uncompleted assignments. I was told that it was his perogative on what
each students punishment was... So then asked him if this meant that another student
in that same class with the same assignment would get the same punishment since they
had more than 8 referrals for the year..... he stated no it was on an indvidual basis.
Another point..... my son was sick this week and actually missed Wednesday.
I asked him about the 1 day makeup for students that where sick..... he said it was
assigned that it didnt matter if Josh was sick, that he should have done it at home.
I said how? Josh did not know he was going to miss Wednesday.... this is only the
second day he's missed school this year and he's never been late.
I have had similiar problems with this school system the whole time my son has gone
to school here... where punishments are more strict for some students and less for others and not just concerning our son.
Since when is it ok to swat or suspend a student for not turning in an assignment.... wonder what college students or even some of us adult student would think of that.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...
Oh and I already fax an appeal into the schools superintendant,
who literally stumbled all over himself when I was asking about that 1
makeup day that all the kids are suppose to be entitled too when their sick.
