What is the name of your state? Florida

 I'm a very upset parent!!! My daughter is a first grade student in a public school. She informed her cousin today that a young boy puts his hands on her bottom as well as up her shirt every time the class has reading time on the rug of the classroom. Apparently this happened many times. WHERE IS THE TEACHER WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING!!!!!!

Do I have a case against the school for negligence? or something!!

This just ain't right. Can anyone help?

Negligence? No, not right now. Report the boy now that you know. Your daughter obviously didn't tell the teacher or you for that matter.

My wife and I are meeting with the principal tomorrow morning. I just don't understand how the teacher did not catch this. This apparently happens ever time they have reading. There are only 18 students in her class. How could the teacher not catch this. I'm very upset. Can the school be accountable for anything?

Your daughter, who is very young, told her cousin about this. Who told you? Why didn't your daughter tell you?

I realize you are upset, but do you realize you are up in flames about a story told by a small child, that you may have heard third-hand? Be reasonable and mature about this. It may not have happened at all, or it may have happened in an entirely different way.

K,K,K,
I just told you not right now. The teacher can't watch just your daughter. I don't know why your child didn't tell you or the teacher, but she didn't tell.

I agree.. .and I also understand that the teacher could have missed it.. she cannot have her eyes on ALL 18 children at the same time, just as we as parents do not have our children in our eyesight every second.

Yes, they can be held accountable for making sure that the inappropriate touching stops. But they can't do anything until they know what is happening. ONLY 18 students in her class? and you think that she can watch every move that each of them is making. It is not as if the school has ignored what is happening, they are unaware of it. If you are talking about some kind of monetary award for yourself, you are way off base.

Of course I do. :p

And no, there is no teacher in the world that can watch 18 or 28 or 38 children simultaneously. I can't imagine what kind of world you live in, OP, if you think that every story your kid tells is entirely true -- and the younger the kid, the more likely it's a "story."

Perhaps your 1st grade daughter is telling fibs, or parroting stories she saw on tv or other media.

Perhaps she is exaggerating to impress cousin.

Who is her cousin? How old is her cousin?

The school needs to investigate this situation, and you need to have a serious talk with your daughter, (also a therapist too) about 'good touch / bad touch' and what do to about a bad touch, and most of all to do it right away.

"SAY NO"

"THEN GO"

"AND TELL"

Say no, even if told not to.

Get away from that person, and fast.

Tell someone. You might be scared, but you need to tell an adult, like your parent, a teacher or a counselor.

Why would my daughter lie about what happened. Her cousin is in the 4th grade and realized this was a problem and told their grandmother, who told me. Our children know this behavior is not normal and she should have came to us. We tell them this all the time. Frankly I'm upset she did not come to us about this. The only thing I can think of is our daughter must have thought we would have been mad with her and this is why she did not tell us directly. I'm greatful my niece told someone because this could have continued further. My daughter is only six and she is the sweetest kid I know. This just hurts to know this happened to your own.

for crying out loud, have you even talked to your daughter about this??? Who cares what grandma, or the cousin has to say, and why are you sitting around wondering why she didn't tell and blah blah blah. If this was my kid I would be talking to HER right now, not to a bunch of strangers on the internet. geez
