What is the name of your state? Arizona
Hi,
I'll keep this as brief as possible but hopefully not omit anything legally relevant... This is from something that happened several years ago -- I think it is way past the time a lawsuit can be filed but I'm curious and so am asking the question.
I met a woman at church (I'm married and she was too). We seemed to click (too well) and I developed some feelings for her. She seemed to be flirting with me and it seemed like she might have some feelings for me too. My wife thought she was doing that too. I will call this woman Tina although that is not her real name.
My wife and I seperately talked to another man and woman at the church about this issue. We also talked to a pastor and counseler at the church about it and they told me to get an accountability partner and talk to him about it. So I did and I talked to my accountability partner about it in detail including that I felt like Tina was flirting with me and maybe that she also had feelings for me too.
I did not talk to Tina about it for a very long time but eventually I did. And it blew up very badly. She found out I had talked to others about this. She said she had no feelings at all for me and had never been anything but friendly to me. She said I had lied about her and ruined her good name. She made a veiled threat to a lawsuit against me although she never did file any suit. That was over 3 years ago.
I read up on the AZ laws regarding slander and I don't think she could have won a suit. I don't think what I did met the legal criteria for slander. But I'm interested in your thoughts. Regardless, I'm not ever going to talk to anyone at a church about my issues again.
