On monday the 4th of December I was told to go home. i was not given a reason why. I received a call on monday night stating that i was not to come in on tuesday either. i asked the woman who called my why, i was given no reason, i was asked if i am getting paid, i was told that there is no gaurantee. she also told me on tuesday do not come in on wednesday and the only information she gave me was that there were doing an investigation. do i have any recourse? there had been some gossip going on in the office. i feel this is the reason they are doing this to me. they initially try to say something to be about moving a computer but i send them an e-mail from the IT person saying that he said it was ok. i feel like they are trying to find something on me and i don't know what my rights are? am i entiled to receive a notice of suspension or termination, i realize maryland is an "at will" state. please help. this is very upsetting to me

No, the law does not require you be given a reason, in writing or otherwise. Are you exempt or nonexempt? Whether you must be paid or not for this suspension is dependent upon that plus, if exempt, the reason, whatever that turns out to be.

What's more, I can point to specific attorneys who will agree. I was on the phone recently with an attorney who regularly posts on such boards and who spent a good ten minutes exclaiming how well informed and knowledgeable certain posters are, specifically stating that HR and Payroll practicioners know more than attorneys in other specialities, and he named Patty by name.

So take your arrogant attitude somewhere else - it won't fly here.

that is painfully obvious especially since mariav suggested administration post some sort of disclaimer warning those asking questions that anybody is allowed to post, not just attorney's

mariav is obviously either a troll or a disgruntled poster that didn;t recieve the answers (maybe from patty herself) that she wanted.

I'm betting because of the direct attack on patty that it is the latter.

Hey, guys thanks, and don't worry about it. I would hope my self-concept is better than to let somebody like mariav affect it.

I just get SO tired of hearing "just payroll" and "anybody can do payroll" and "payroll is just a clerical job". None of those things are true if payroll is done right.
