Selling information on Ebay, concerns.

What is the name of your state? Minnesota

Would it be illegal or in violation of any property/trademark laws if I gathered a group of website addresses that gave away free gifts (you know, the ones that require participation in some kind of program) and sold the list on Ebay as a Word or PDF file? The list would include the website addresses and would clearly state that I am in no way affiliated with them. I basically just want to sell information. Any advice on the legality of this venture?

You're asking about selling what are essentially scams. Not a good ibusiness plan.

I didn't ask if it was a good business plan. I asked if it was legal. "Scam" according to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary: "a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation." So it is essentially illegal? The least you can do, if you're going to make remarks about how "good" a business plan is, is be a little more specific. Otherwise keep your ambiguously unhelpful comments to yourself.

You want to sell what doesn't belong to you. That is a scam. Get permission from the website owners first. Putting your "plan" into action without permission could cost you a whole lot more money that you would ever make selling stuff on Ebay.

I don't understand how selling the information as to the location of something they can buy (or get for free) is "selling something that doesn't belong to me." I simply want to sell a list of information pointing people to where they can obtain an item from someone else. The information is mine. Say, for instance, someone came up to me as I was walking down the street and asked me "where is the nearest place I can buy a candy bar?" And I say "I'll tell you for 1 dollar." So they proceed to hand me the money, and I tell them the address and directions to the nearest Convenience store. Not likely to happen, but this is illegal how?

Okay, you got accurate and correct legal answers.

If you know more than we do (it happens) then good luck.

Keep in touch.

The answers I'm getting aren't very specific. I'm not attempting to anger anyone, I am simply trying to get the specifics. I like asking questions and like getting detailed answers. I know my proposed venture is probably shady, but I don't yet see how exactly it is illegal. If anything, I would think the the owner of the websites that I would be providing people would thank me for directing potential business to them.
