What is the name of your state? CA

I don't live in CA but got my DUI there. They require SR-22 to clear my DMV record and allow me to renew my license here in my home state. I have my own insurance so this is just to satisfy them and clear up my license....so I want the cheapest possible. Does anyone know where to look or have any recommendations?

Just curious what you're hoping to accomplish that the courts, judges and prosecutors can't? I think you are the one that doesn't "get it."

At any rate, you're opinion is of little consequence to me and most others from what I've seen.

Um, so I guess I'll try to provide the OP with a little help. Essentially, you are looking for the cheapest car insurance; any provider will provide you with an SR-22. The SR-22 is just a form which verifies that you have liability coverage. The SR-22 is not the insurance itself.

SR-22 forms are state specific; not all states have SR-22 requirements. Delaware, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania don't require SR-22s, but if you have an SR-22 requirement and then move to one of these states, you must continue to meet the requirements of the SR-22 state where the offense was committed.

New York and North Carolina don't require SR-22 filings, and most companies don't offer out-of-state SR-22 filings for policies in these states.

Try http://www.carinsurance.com/ Also, you can just google "cheapest car insurance" and take your pick of websites.

Oh, and also, if you have insurance, then you should be able to get an SR-22 faxed over to CA. You can't get it from your insurance agent; you need to talk to your the actual insurance company providing your coverage.

OP: Most insurance companies do not write out of state SR22s. I'm guessing that is why you're asking. However, you won't be able to get a CA policy, unless you and your vehicle are in CA. Progressive writes out of state SR22s, though. Good luck. The price might be higher than what you want to pay, but, you don't have many options, because most companies don't do this.

Not that easy. See my post. The SR22 that will be faxed over (for most companies its done electronically, now) will be for his CURRENT state, not for CA. They don't want or need that particular SR22.

I read about a non-owner policy. Would it be possible to get this out of state? Since most companies don't write out of state SR-22s, then it would be worthless to tell my current insurance provider about my DUI, correct? (since they'd probably raise my rates and wouldn't even solve the CA situation)

Yuo don't need to inform your carrier about your driving record. They will find out about it on their own.

You don't qualify for a non-owner policy since you own a vehicle. You will not be able to get a policy in CA since you don't live there. The ONLY option is an out of state SR22. The only company that I am aware of that offers it is Progressive. You'd buy a policy for your CURRENT state, and have 2 SR22s. One for the current state, and one for CA. You'd cancel your current policy, unless they offer the out of state SR22.

Good luck.

Look up Serenity Insurance on Google. Or do a search with key words SR22 and Serenity.

I have an SR22 through them. Thery're an SR22 broker. They got me insurance, with a DUI, for the same cost as I had with a perfect driving record and on a "good driver" discount.

This most likely has to do with my age and that I have no driving infractions other than the DUI. If you're younger (i.e. under 30 yrs old) you're most likely not going get insurance this cheaply. But, maybe Serenity can get something affordable.

Was your SR22 IN STATE, or OUT OF STATE?

By the way, an insurance company CANNOT also be a "broker".

I live in Oregon.

I just did a Google search for "Serenity Insurance" and found the address "www.serenitygroup.com". No they're not an insurance company. They're a broker.

I thought you were trying to say that they are an insurance company. I apologize. More than likely, they are an AGENCY, not a broker.

You live in OR. Is your SR22 for OR as well?
