What is the name of your state? OH

Ok, so we have our court date coming up for our step-parent adoption. Last thing needed is our home study, which is being done next week. I was under the assumption that they come to check out the house to make sure that the child(ren) aren't living in deplorable conditions. My attorney said that he/she will want to see the way we interact as a family. This is what I don't really get. I'm always focused on the guest in my house...are we suppose to break into song and dance to prove that everything runs smoothly in our house? What should we expect?

Thanks. What is the name of your state?

The best advice I can give re; Home Studies...is to act as natural as possible, and follow your normal daily routine. ie; if a friend just stopped by to chat, you'd still go about whatever you were doing normally- homework, dinner, etc. etc.

They are just making sure your home is appropriate and that the children's environment is normal/healthy.

Thanks. I'm not worried because we are the most normal family around. (Homework done right after school, family dinner, then tv all of us, or a game. Unless my son has a neighbor friend over) I just thought it odd the way my attorney put it. It seemed by the way he said it that they would sit and watch us. That just seemed eerie to me. I would constantly be wanting to ask if they were thirsty, could I get them something... But I think I would be more uncomfortable with someone watching us...I thought they just looked around, and asked questions.

They do look around and ask a few questions...just try to relax and open/honest.

Glad to hear you are following through with the step-parent adoption :) What does the jerk bio. Dad think of THAT? LOL He was such a piece of work!

Don't sweat it, the home study is a walk in the park. We fought to get ours done because they were taking so long and kept asking when it would happen to no avail. It just so happens they decided to do it when my house was destroyed because we were repainting the entire house. I warned her of this prior to her coming and it was no big deal. She sat on the couch with husband and I while the kids were in the other room (she had sent them in there), asked us simple questions like how long we had been together, how big the house was and such... went and talked to the two kids and it was done.. she wasn't here maybe 30 minutes. Technically the only way they can not really recommend it is if your home is so bad that the child should be removed...so again, don't sweat it.

I suggest opening with "I think I'm Gunna Like It Here" from Annie and closing with "So Long, Farewell" from The Sound of Music.:D

Honestly~relax and be yourself I am sure it will go fine. I too am glad to see that the Bio-Dirtbag is OUT for good!
You've got a lucky kiddo ;)

Kiddo and I watched Annie SOOO many times. I'm such a sucker for an adoption story.

You should of seen me sniffling when I watched Disney's Tarzan with her!

I enjoyed watching disney movies with my daughter....but after one weekend (when she was three) of watching the Little Mermaid close to 50 times...LOL....I went nuts and went out and bought her her own TV and VCR for her bedroom (DVDs didn't exist when my daughter was three)....I couldn't take it anymore!

Under the sea....under the sea....I can still sing every lyric from every song 16 years later!

Tarzan is wonderful (my step-son & I both cried together) but the 2 that get me every time are Lilo & Stich...Lilo declares "This is my family, and it's good...it may be small and broken but it's still good!" and The Tigger Movie...Tigger discovers that his "family" has been there all along.

Water works I tell ya!

Thanks again everyone. It should be completed next week. I'm sure it will go fine, I just thought it was creepy the way my attorney explained it would happen.

Casa; He was the one who put it back on the table. We offered it many times, but it took him meeting my son at the psychologists to get it through his head that he had a long road ahead of him. Then after 2 years and 25,000 later...poof...he was gone. Now only speaking through his attorney. Refusing to pay the doctor, my cs or medical. Now if for some reason he stops this, we can take him back to court for the 10,000 he now owes me in cs and medical.

Sorry..eme; Your song suggestions cracked me up! I got a visual on the three of us "non talents" doing that...and it will haunt me all day!
