What is the name of your state? TN
I have a friend who was here illegally from Mexico for approx 3 years. While here he worked under a W7 taxpayer id # as a mechanic and paid taxes. He had a driver permit (Tn gave these for a short period of time) and maintained insurance on his car. I state these facts because these seem to be some of the problems a lot of people have with illegals (not doing these things) and rightly so. He has returned to Mexico and would like to return to the United States legally. I have researched through the internet and am not having much luck. Does anyone know of a way that he could come here legally. I think it would be easier if he were a dr or lawyer...but it seems really difficult for a normal joe or jose as it may be to come here legally.

Yep... the process is simple.
All he has to do is to go to the US consulate in his home country... and make application for a visa. When his number comes up, he gets a visa allowing him to come here legally.

No, what is difficult is getting into the US after you have entered illegally in the past.

Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer, Baker--rules are the same for everyone on that score.

He is barred from reentry to the US for a period of 10 years because of his unlawful presence in the US before. Unless he can get that bar to reentry waived on the basis of showing extreme hardship to a qualifying US citizen relative, he will not be able to get a visa on any basis.
