What is the name of your state? Ny
My husband left me 5/2/06. I just found out he has married his girlfriend, that would be fine, except , he is still married to me. I obtained a copy of his marriage liscense, and he states he was never married, and that his marriage to his girlfriend is marriage number 1. I have file a complaint with the NY State Police, but as yet he has not been charged with anything. Is there anything else, I can do? Thank you.

Yes, I finally have money to retain an attorney, but I want him to pay for the divorce, and I think he should have some consquences to be a bigamist.

Then as part of the divorce, your attorney should request that he be responsible for reimbursing you for your legal expenses. As far as what a Judge will actually ORDER, no one here can answer that question.

are you sure he didn't file for divorce from you when he left? He may have claimed you were served, never responded, and then had the marriage dissolved.

Any kids? When were you married?

New York has a one year waiting period for an uncontested divorce.
