Hey
I have been attending a college course for the past 5 months and I have paid the fees through a grant. The course runs three days a week from mon-wed from 6:30 to 10:30 so it is about 12 hours a week (not including extra time spent with assignments and such). At the start of the year I was told by the college that it was classed as a full-time day course and I was entitled to recieve a grant.
I quit my job in which I had a salary of about 20,000 so that I could attend the course and I have been unable to find employment since which suited the hours that I was available (due to the college course). Also because I was geting a grant I could not get social welfare while I was out of work.
After spending five months so far scraping through the year on no money I recieved a letter from my college saying that my course was in fact not a full-time day course but a part-time course and that i was not elligible for the grant- even though I recieved a letter from them previously stating that it was a full time course. Now I am expected to pay the college E2,200 in fees and I am expected to pay the Clare VEC E200 because of a screw up by the college.
I took the issue up with my course director and he looked into the matter for me. I recieved an e-mail from him today saying that nothing could be done and that the best that they could do was allow me to pay it back in installments!
Also, a friend of mine is in the same position as myself but he recived over E4000.
Any advice?
