Now if you want to be mean.

Depending on how much your bank would charge you for the check returning to you, I would strongly consider just depositing the thing. It will bounce and cost dad $$$. Then redeposit the check... boing..$$$$$.

Not sure how many times your bank will let you do it but it could hit dad where it hurts.

I haven't checked any statutes but you may be able to charge dad a fee for the bad check as well.

This will also give you the proof you need to file this with the prosecutor.

I would actually love to be in the courtroom to see the judge reaction to the fact that 1) Dad made the check out to the child, 2) That he told the child that she could spend it on whatever she wanted, and 3) that on top of that the check bounced. I think it might infuriate the judge enough that dad would spend a night or two in jail for contempt.

I was thinking of opening a savings account for the child support money.:p I don't want to deposit it into my personal account, as I pay my self employment stuff out of that one. I'd love to have the judge chew his ass out. It would serve him right.

I feel like calling him up and saying "you know, your daughter needed xyz today, and she was going to use that money you gave her. but the check was no good." I just wanted to hear him try to get out of that one. Also, his mommy's name on the account with his. Idiots! Pure and simple!

Dont let him know that you know the check was no good. Just do what everyone else said and keep trying to cash it until you can. Then take the cash (make sure you get cash) and deposit it or spend it or what have you. Oh and file contempt against dad :)

Nah, I'm not gonna call him. Can't stand to talk to him. I'd just like to hear him try to squirm his way out of it, that's all.:p

I'm going to hold on to it. Hoping it won't be good at all in the next couple of months. We'll be before the circuit court judge before long anyways. he's appealed the fact that he has to pay.
