What is the name of your state? OH

My son was adopted by my husband. I checked our state child support website and the number is adding for our case. Who stops support? Was it suppose to be my attorney? Me? Him? His attorney? I can see this blowing up in a few years, and I don't want it to be my fault.

thanks.

For pete's sake, you KNOW that your ex stopped being the legal father at adoption. Contact CSE and stop the support for your husband's child as of the date of adoption.

UH! I just checked the site 5 minutes before I posted, I planned on calling tomorrow I thought it was all part of the adoption and handled then...It was just a question. Go take a nap and get over yourself.

Whatever, I agree with NW. You know he doesnt owe you support, do you want there to be an issue later in life? Spend 15 min on the phone and make sure its taken care of, its such an easy thing to do to save ALL of you a lot of time if it DOESNT get fixed.

AGAIN!!! I just looked at the state's site and was surprised because I thought it was handled at the adoption! So I posted the question. I plan on calling tomorrow, just wanted to see if someone ACTUALLY knew who stops it. Thanks for the opinions though...I'm sure I couldn't have thought it that on my own to call...but I guess I have to keep repeating myself on that.

I know that sounds bitchy, and I really don't mean any disrespect but give me a break...I asked a question when CSEA was closed!

Termination of Child Support Obligation - The parent who is the residential parent and legal custodian of a child for whom a support order is issued shall immediately notify, and the obligor may notify, the CSEA of any reason for which the support order should terminate, including, but not limited to the following:
Death
Marriage
Emancipation
Enlistment in the armed services
Deportation
Change of legal or physical custody of the child

This is straight from a county in Ohio's CSEA website. The NCP may notifity CSEA, but the residential parent has the obligation.

Easy enough. Thank you.

I should have waited a day. I called CSEA this morning, and basically was told "good for you" about the adoption and that they weren't stopping anything until the COURT did it. No matter what papers I provided for them.

Ironically I got in the mail today a notice of a hearing for Termination of Support to be held next month and that I must appear along with bio and attorneys.

I'm not sure how it works in other states but apparently in Ohio, or maybe just my county you have to have a hearing to stop it. Not being a smartass, just to give the FYI.

Well I'm glad you tried to take care of it anyway. Good luck!

Glad you came back with your FYI. :)
