An email sent from person X to person Y about person ABC included allegations of wrong-doings, illegal activity, immoral character, and allegations that ABC had been banned from a certain association. Person Y then forwarded the said email to about 20 other people. None of the allegations presented against ABC are true and we have facts to prove it.
Everyone is in some sort of public service field, including the sender who is a police officer, and all are members in the same organization.
Would this be considered defamation of character, slander and/or libel??? What are the chances of this ever going to court?

It now looks as if ABC won't receive a promotion within this organization because of these allegations.

Is this the same situation which occurred eight months ago, with the personal add being emailed to other friends who didn't know the author was gay? Or is this a different situation with twenty different friends?

Since the allegations are written, they would be considered libel, which is one of the two types of defamation.

The allegations had to have been made "as a statement of fact". No one can tell you whether the allegations qualify as a statement of fact without seeing them.

The chances of it going to court depend on:
1. Whether xyz actually has a claim
2. Whether xyz has the means (hire an atty or files a complaint himself) to bring suit against the defendant/s
3. Whether xyz feels it will be worth his while to sue the defendants, who may not be able to pay any judgment xyz eventually wins
4. How the defendants respond to such a suit
