Expulsion for prank phone call

My son and a friend decided it would be funny to do a Bart Simpson style phone prank on one of their teachers. This teacher filed harassment charges against them and now the high school has suspended them and says they will be expelled at their hearing Tuesday. Can the school be involved at all since this occured on a weekend, at the teachers home and in no way involved a school function? I am not condoning the boys actions and I feel they should be punished appropriately, but I feel the school is taking it too far.

Is this their first offense or do they have a history of trouble at school? That had to be more than a little phone prank for the teacher to feel threatened enough to file harassment charges.

Around my area, we've had some cheerleaders suspended for toilet papering a teacher's house, marching band members suspended for stealing candy bars, football players suspended for writing on the car windows of their opponents....none of them had their uniforms on or were representing the schools at the time of their "pranks", and it was all off school property, after school hours.

Both boys are A-B students. Neither has any history of problems. Both are on the high school football teams and school choir. And one is a member of his local junior police officer group.

And their history truthfully doesn't matter. They pulled a prank which apparently was quite serious. And that is what their punishment is based upon.

They may or may not be able to, it depends on your state laws, I'd check them. Either way you should talk to an education lawyer in your state, they could help you more than I could, and they could tell you what the laws are in your state. You definatly should contact one because they can help you out at the hearing if they can in fact expel them for this.

Ahh...me and a friend also did this to a teacher. The fact is we got expelled and it was a stupid joke. We were lucky enough for him not to press charges. But we threaten him "I'am going to kill you if you hang up" But it was not our voices it was a recording. All that I can say is it was stupid. And I agree we should pay the price for it but being expelled? Especially when we only had a week left of school. PLUS we never would have called..if...well see first were both in chrous and she got chosen for a speacial program and she had to pay 5.50 for the shirt. She missed ONE day of practice he wouldnt give her the money back or even at least the shirt. I think it was the most stupidest thing anyone could have done to expell us just cause the fact it didnt even happen at school. Who gives a damn if we go to the school and he was a teacher? "oh wel your disrupting the peace at his home" BULL! We didnt call him every 2 second its was a 4 time call on different days. The Assistant Principal and Him are stupid as anything it was a joke and they dont get it.

That is so retarded. What happened to the days where you could do prank phone calls. And who gets offended by prank calls? I don't. I just get their number and harass them back. It becomes a little game. That teacher is obviously very thin skinned to get upset over a bart simpson prank call. And no one should have gotten expelled. Schools take stuff way too far and try to run peoples lives too much.
