At my daughter's PT conference she told the teacher that she was extremely concerned about bullies for the next school year. She has had one bully in her class that has not been dealt with (physically hurting other students). Coming into her class next year are 3 bullies/difficult personalities from a lower grade. The class is a multi-age 5/6 grade class where each child spends 2 years. While she was assured that her concern would be treated with the utmost seriousness and discussed with the head of school, neither she nor I received any response. While waiting for a response the contract date came and went. I did not submit a contract to reserve her spot for the next year since I was waiting for an administrative response. In the meantime there were 3 more physical, bullying attacks by this one student. After much consternation my family decided to return to the school. Calling for a conference to discuss this and other concerns I was informed we would be looking at a waitlist situation. We have been at this school for 7 years, since pre-school. I have 2 children and we have paid in excess of $130K in tuition.

On the face of it, yes I missed the deadline so I blew it. But the reality is that nobody actually believes there is a waitlist given the number of students leaving the school next year. This Head of School keeps everything to herself. Not even her assistant is included, merely being relegated to answering the phone and filing. In the past parents have waited as long as Memorial Day to decide whether or not to return. In the past she has altered class sizes to accommodate additional students. In the past numerous families have left the school because of the way they were treated (poorly) when bringing concerns to her or the teachers. It has always been that if you complain you are therefore unhappy and she doesn't want anyone that is unhappy at this school. She can and will manipulate the numbers to suit her agenda.

There is a long history of rudeness and lack of courtesy/respect for the parents at this private school. Is there any legal basis for exploring options. Personally I would like to see her be replaced as Head of School.

Yeah...well.. I'm sure that won't happen on your say so...but you do have the option of placing your child/children in another school.

Why would you want to keep your child in a class with 3 known bullies? You said yourself that your concerns werent addressed and from the sound of it will not be addressed this year either.

And, if she was physically assaulted by these people, then you should have filed a police report. However, if you missed the deadline, then you missed the deadline.

But, anyway, what is your legal question?

Since you obviously have a problem with this school, its administration and its teachers - wouldn't it make more sense to simply place your child elsewhere?
