another dog bite ???

i actually care for the little dog a great bit. it was an exact description of the event. my dogs were literally playing with the little dog like they do their toys. anyways, does anyone have an idea of the statutes concerning this type of incident?
or any idea of where i may look to get an idea?

So you knew the dog and owner? Did you know they were coming over? Your being vague and leaving out details. What breed are your dogs? Known as a 'considered' vicious breed?

Georgia defines proper enclosure as:

(7) "Proper enclosure" means an enclosure for keeping a dangerous dog or potentially dangerous dog while on the owner's property securely confined indoors or in a securely enclosed and locked pen, fence, or structure suitable to prevent the entry of young children and designed to prevent the dog from escaping. Any such pen or structure shall have secure sides and a secure top, and, if the dog is enclosed within a fence, all sides of the fence shall be of sufficient height and the bottom of the fence shall be constructed or secured in such a manner as to prevent the dog's escape either from over or from under the fence. Any such enclosure shall also provide protection from the elements for the dog.

No where does it state an invisible or aka electric/zap fence is acceptable so be careful your dogs don't play with any people or neighborhood children or you could face allot of problems.

You are probably not held accountable according to your vague description but if this was a friend, they probably won't be your pal after they pay the vet bills and burial of their dog.

Man, I don't think this is a breed issue... this is an out of control, unsocialized dogs issue. I don't know what the person with the toy dog was thinking, but what's the owner thinking having dogs that don't know not to play like that with other animals?

My dog LOVES his toys. But he's sure never tried to 'play' with the cat or other smaller dogs, or anything else. Likewise w/my greyhound, my German Shepard and my terriers.

Crazy.

lets not make so many assumptions about out of control dogs. my dog are not considered dangerous by any standards- according to all insurance carriers and american kennel clubs. my dogs are the only ones in the neighbor hood that are contained. all the other dogs in the neighborhood play with my dogs without issues. my mail carrier, pest control guy, and lawn guys come into our yard and play with them because they are socialized and well trained. no my neighbor was not invited into the yard. again, does anyone have legal citations for this issue. try not to make aaumptions about the situation. if you have questions ask them instead of just throwing out random opinions about the animals themselves.

I'm just glad they weren't pit bulls. If they were, this incident would have probably been on the front page of all the papers and on the local news. Funny how because they weren't pit bulls, nobody will make an issue of it. (except for the nieghbor). Dogs will be dogs. Since this happened on your property, and you dogs have no prior history of animal aggression, I don't see how you would be liable. This is just a unfortunate incident.

Where were you at the time? And again - what kind of dogs?

And MyHouse - I also have hounds. Though slightly more robust ones. Sorry, but being hounds doesn't automatically make them killing machines.

I have four dogs. One lab loves to retrieve praire voles (rats) and drop them at my feet unharmed. The other lab retrieves eggs unbroken although he was never trained for this feat. The welch and the fox terrier on the other hand will rip and shred prey unless we are quick with the command to release. The irony is people afraid of dogs will shy away from the large labs to the small terriers.

Yes, it is hard to predict how a dog will act. My neighbor had a dog that was half wolf and half hound. This dog was huge and it had a giant head, but it was very gentle. It got out a lot and one day I saw it standing by my front porch. I was going out to take it home when my oldest IG ran out. He is normally scared of big dogs, so I assume that he thought he was not alone (he thought one of the other IGs ran out with him). When he realized he was alone, he ran away from the big dog and hid under the carport. If a dog can be embarrassed, I think he was. The big dog just looked at him and didn't get upset at all. I've never had a big dog, but it seems to me they are usually a lot calmer than the small dogs.

I have a beagle, a basset and a foxhound. Like I said, a bit more robust than yours. All three will "hunt", but don't kill. They tend to chase w/o bringing down, but will, on occasion, bring me their prey - unharmed. More often, they'll catch and then drop, nudging the critter to go run some more.

As I said - mine are also hounds, but they don't kill the wildlife in our yard.
