What is the name of your state?

Ok, I'll make this short an sweet and not get into to much detail,

I left for the Army (basic training)ft.Leonard wood MO. in january, I was only there 20 days, (3 weeks) and was sent home on a red cross letter ( death in family) when I came home problems got worse, family/personal health issues. I did not return back when I was supose to and was marked AWOL, and just recently I called the deserter hotline to hear they have a packet on me and I should turn myself in. (called twice to verify)

So my question is, what exactly happens now? what should I do, and where should I go,exc...(pretty much what proccess is going to take place?) I have read a few posts on awol returns and they say its pretty much a 5 day thing your in monday out friday..is it still like that? what are the chances of being sent back to Leonard Wood? and if any one has any info on how to go about traveling to sill from the airport ( bus/taxi/price??) that would be helpful to thank you very much for your time everyone

**for those who are going to comment and tell me im a coward, and im going to get the death sentance.. keep that BS to yourself please, I loved the army, im just needed more at home right now. and I really dont care how I get out, I just wanna get out.

and for those who come on here just to bash people because they have nothing better to do, Be nice to everyone you meet. They're fighting a battle you know nothing about.

When was the last death sentence (or life sentence in levenworth for that matter) for deserting? The very fact that you can be sentenced to death for desertion just shows the contrary to the militarys claims that it is an all voulentary force, there must be some compusory component to even justify the certian aspects of the UCMJ or death sentences for "quiting your job" (or any other harsh sentence for that matter). The only voulentary part is signing up everything after that is compulsory. After reading the UCMJ and court martials case study your almost better off intentionally shooting to miss (so they cant slam you with the throwing your weapon away clause) and hope the enemy kills you before your own men do, or better yet the enemy kills thoes around you that seek to slam you with the UCMJ as a result of not killing the enemy.

How long have you been AWOL? Do what they said and turn yourself in and tell them just what you told us. Perhaps you can get a entry level seperation.

The bottom line is getting out of the military is a crap shoot these days becasue they are holding on to all the warm bodies they can get, they dont care how they have to do it or how unethical it is they are doing it so the politicians can save face (ie avoid a draft). There are alot of routes you can take but none are gaurenteed (at least none that will get you something better than an OTH), if you want an OTH you can smoke some weed and piss hot, these days they may still keep you after the first time but if you do it repeatedly they will eventually give you an OTH. Another thing, if you are active duty you have very little time to do the research you need to do to get out and if your command knows you are trying to get out they will impose extra duty to ensure you do not have the time you need to put together your thoughts and do your homework, the military is a very sick and scary organization and I have noticed that there are many societial restrictions in place to stifle voices of experence like myn.

You love the Army?

Problem here is that even with an ELS, you will have an RE Code of 4 on your DD 214. This will preclude you from EVER joining any branch of the military again (reference AR 601-210, Chapter 4 for the details).

You *might* be able to squeak out with a hardship discharge... But that is difficult to obtain. You need to post more details for us to give some direction.
