We live in NJ. My son has an IEP and a diagnosis of autism. The school principal called my son's neuropsychologist to discuss a comment that he made in my home (not in school). I had mentioned the comment to his teacher and she relayed it to the principal. Is the school required to obtain parental consent to contact a health care provider directly? This seems like an invasion of privacy and a violation of my parental rights.

This is a school district that has a history of violating our rights and ordered an in-class psych assessment without notifying me in advance or obtaining parental consent.

This seems to be the neuropsychologist's issue for releasing the info. It doesn't sound like the school broke any confidences. There might be some issues for the district if they use, store or re-release the info gained w/out a release.

Pull out your copy of the IEP. It may allow for exchange of information, especially given all parties you mentioned are, I assume, present for the yealy IEP meeting/update.
