What is the name of your state? California

Is there anything a citizen can do to try to force the Federal government to enforce specific laws? What is the name of your state?

Yes. *Some* specific laws can be enforced through the courts. Not all and the courts will tend to not enforce things which require some decision on the part of the person.

I didn't know that my question had been posted, so I asked it again, though in different words. In any event, since you've answered, I have to ask what "...which require some decision on the part of the person" means. What kind of decision might I as the complaining party have to make?

What federal law do you want enforced?

I don't have the specific titles and dates, etc of all of the laws in question in front of me, but I would certainly properly identify the necessary specifics if I thought there was any kind of chance of having my petition being considered. In fact, there is no question but that I would have to proceed through a lawyer if I were to do this on my own. For the moment, however, I will say that my immediate concern is with the immigration laws, but I'll bet you've already guessed that.

In general, you cannot FORCE them to enforce immigration law. I presume you would like to compel the feds to enforce sanctions and prohibitions regarding the presence and employment of said illegal immigration.

In general, enforcement is a political question and not a legal one. There are few laws that REQUIRE law enforcement (local or fed) to act. To my knowledge, there is no law requiring the feds to detain or deport illegal immigrants.

With the current debate in Congress on what amounts to amnesty and the legalization of some 12 million illegals, morale in the USBP is very low. Many are effectively standing down effectively asking why they should risk their lives to enforce a law that may well be effectively moot in a few months. And make no mistake, these agents get shot at and assaulted every day ... unless you live in a border region, these stories do not make the news. When I lived and worked as a cop in San Diego, there were many such incidents, and may injured and wounded USBP officers.

Sadly, you won't generally be able to force them to enforce the laws as they are written.
