What is the name of your state? WI

My friend is in Langlade County in Wisconsin.
She caught her husband of 20 years cheating with two different women within a weeks time.
He cut her off by taking off long distance on the phone (in his name), cut off the internet, froze their bank accouns, then sold the house to his brother who served her with an eviction notice. Both their names were on the house papers, but as Mr. Smith OR Mrs. Smith.

She cannot afford a lawyer and has no access to funds since he froze the accounts

What rights does she have and what is her first step?

Thank you,
Kristyna

The first step is for her to beg or borrow the money to retain an attorney. She absolutely NEEDS one.

The conveyance to brother was bogus and not enforcable (nor would any title insurer have stuck their necks out to insure this transaction).

Not only does she have an OWNERSHIP interest which she still retains as her interest was NOT conveyed out, but even were she NOT on title, in WI, she would be vested with a homestead interest in the marital residence if either had owned it during the marriage (in the absence of a prenup to the contrary).

Does the eviction notice have a court appearance date? She should show up in court with acopy of her deed and contest the eviction because she is half owner and her husband's conveyance was an improper attempt to sidestep the marital property division of the house in the divorce. Judge will NOT be amused with hubby's actions or brothers participation.

I agree that is not going to go over well at all, and I would also add- do not move out
