Still AWOL since 6/19 and all is still okay. I'm just in the waiting game until my DFR packet is ready. Speaking of DFR, what exactly is a "packet" anyways? I'm assuming it is a file? Once you have been DFR'd and have this packet, do you ask the people at Fort Knox to send it to Fort Sill for when you turn yourself in? I need a little clarity on that. Also, while in AWOL status, if a police background check is ran, what would show up? I've heard different stories that AWOL is a misdemeanor but isn't in NCIC computers. Is that true? And last but not least, and this has me a bit worried...one of my good friends who was on my referral paperwork before going in, received a phone call yesterday from a guy asking if he'd seen or heard from me. This guy was calling locally, not from Fort Jackson where I went AWOL from. He said he needed to talk to me "about the military." My friend said that the guy was nice enough, but you could tell he was pumping my friend for info. My friend also got the impression that this guy was "going down the list" and was going to be calling everybody on my paperwork. Should I be concerned about this? Does this mean they (local or federal law enforcement) is actively looking for me? My mom and dad (where I'm staying,) have not received a phone call or letter. You'd think that would be one of the FIRST places they'd contact. Any advice or opinions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
