Different school in same district

What is the name of your state? Iowa

I am working on a problem and need some assistance or links to help me out: There is a child who lives in a school district and according to where she lives, has to go to school "A". The child has some reading difficulties and the parents would like her to go to school "B" (the child is not special ed). The school district has said that the child is not allowed to go to school "B" because child lives in school "A" zone. Any way around this or any resources you know of that I could use. Thanks.

Your local BOE will have the requirements to apply for an out of district transfer. Usually, (in my neck of the woods, at least) daycare, parent is a teacher working in the out of district school, safety of student, etc., may qualify. Requesting that your child attend an out of district school because you think the reading program/teacher there is better probably won't fly. You can always try to appeal the decision by documenting reasons for the out of district request, and hope for the best. Good luck.

Please show where, anywhere, in the OP's post do the words "out of district" appear. The OP is talking about 2 schools in the same district.

To the OP, the parents of the child may be stuck. If they start allowing one child to attend a different school and the child does not qualify for some type of special program, it could open flood gates where they would have to allow every student to attend the school of their choice.

You are absolutely right! I am so sorry. Where I'm from "out of district" is still considered a different school within the county. I should not have assumed it was the same everywhere...must have been my pre-coffee haze.

In my district, the BOE will consider appeals from parents under the circumstances I listed. They rarely grant the request, but I thought it'd be worth a try if the OP feels strongly about it.
