US Property inherited by foreigner

What is the name of your state? New York



Mr. X owns a coop unit in New York. If Mr. X dies with or without a will, his heirs (who are also foreigners) will only get half of the property and half will be taken by the US Government. Is this true?

What statue book did you get that information from?

The situation was from a couple, husband is Albanian and wife is American. They were saying that if wife dies before the husband, half of their property will be taken by US government. But if the husband dies before the wife, the wife being a US cit will get the property.

I have no idea where they got their basis. So we are concerned about Us property owned by foreigners if Mr X dies, what will happen to his property?

Maybe somebody can enlighten us?
