I'm filling out the info packet for the therapist that I'm taking my youngest girl to - this is in an effort to shut the ex up about her 'developmental delays' once and for all, and is the route recommended by the GAL (even before stupidhead reported me to CPS)...

Under reasons for the visit, I said "Stupidhead has made continuous claims of developmental delay, inability to focus on basic tasks, adhd, neglect and sexual abuse. This is an effort to set his mind at ease regarding our child's development."

Sound ok?

There's a section regarding development - therapist wants to know at what age the child completed the following developmental steps...

Smile
Sitting without help
Crawling
First word
First word strangers could understand
etc

Problem: I'm a TERRIBLE person and have no clue. I know that PAT always said she was a little 'early' on everything, but I can't remember ages. How important is any of that anyway since she's nearly 8? Is she going to thing "No wonder the child is all messed up - her mom sucks!"?

yes, that sounds fine.

My response to that portion would be that the child is 8 years old, and that PAT always said that she was a little "early" on everything. Keep it simple.

CJane: answer the questions with approximates. It's the best you can do. I reenrolled my son in child care at the Y and they ask me the same developmental questions every year AND HE'S 12. I just don't remember. It's gotten to the point that I don't answer the questions anymore, but since he's claiming delays or issues, you need to answer them. I say use... appox. 8 mos (for example). I doubt very seriously she's going to think you're a horrible parent because you can't remember the exact date and time your 8 YEAR OLD did all that stuff.

Yes.

Kidding!! Maybe you could answer along the lines of, "Since it has been so long, I do not know the exact times such as 'at 6 weeks' or '6 months,' but she did all of these things at what I considered to be at the average or normal age and I was never concerned that she was developing more slowly than other children."

I think what the therapist is looking for is the answer that would indicate whether she did NOT do those things at the age an average baby does, so if that's not the case, pinpointing exactly when she did them is probably irrelevant.

If you truly feel confident that she did all these things on time or early, I would Google some sites which tell you when children do these things and pick approximate and appropriate ages.

Come to think of it CJane, I go to work everyday and there are 40 year olds I still don't understand and I think I have a great command of the english language.

I wonder what their mommies put on their forms?:p

i would echo what other's said, keep it real and simple " cant remember exact dates but was never concerned that milestones were not being achieved on time (as they were) and also the pediatrician did not express any concerns, here is contact information from pediatrician for records" (or attach those records yourself).

If your daugther was delayed, the ped would have caught it as well as you and you would have early intervention folks assess her. So adding the peds notes or his/her contact will take the burden on you to remember these things.
