What is the name of your state? California
My daughter was in the 8th grade and was told by her school that her GPA was too low and she did not have enough credits to promote to 9th grade. She was not allowed to attend any of the promotion ceremonies, would not receive a promotion certificate and told she must complete summer school in order to have hopes of making it to 9th grade. After about a week of summer school we received a call from her school stating that" After further calculations, it was determined that she was eligible to promote to 9th grade after all and she would not need to attend summer school."
My question is if I have any recourse for action due to the fact that as a parent, I missed the once in a lifetime opportunity of seeing my child receive her promotion certificate like everyone else, had to cancel already made summer plans being told she was to attend summer school. Not to mention the humility my daughter had to face thinking she might be held back? As a final straw, when attempting to register her into High School, I had to travel to the school a total of 5 different times to register her because her Junior high had not processed any of her paperwork and was not able to get her fully registered until 9 days before school starts back up. Any Thoughts???????

I agree with both. You, as a parent, had the opportunity to see that the mistake was corrected much sooner.

I'm confused. If summer school was a mistake, did you not read her report cards?
Maybe through Summer School she was then promoted. Who know's, but where were you when you got her report cards in the mail?

In the state of Cali, everything is in the mail, not through the student, so where were you?

Also, it is very hard to be held back into the 8th grade. I know the system here, and being held back means you and your daughter are not doing what you are supposed to be doing.

Thank you for your response.
Aware she had been having difficulties with her grades, for the last 3 weeks of school we were in constant contact with the school to find out her status for graduating. It was the day before the last day of school before they had finally "calculated" her information and notified us of her need for summer school. we did not receive a final report card until 3 weeks after school had ended. After a week of attending summer school, they informed us that they had miscalculated her information and that she was eligible to graduate based on her final grades. 3 weeks after graduation had taken place.
