What is the name of your state? Tennessee

I heard differant things about this and need some clairification. I'm about to be 18 in November and I'll be a senior in high school until the end of May, am I legally allowed to move out when I turn 18? I've heard that my mom will still have legal guardianship over me until I drop out or graduate but I don't know if this is true and if it is what restrictions does that place on me wanting to move out?

So, does that mean I don't have any rights as an adult such as voting, keeping a job or having a significant other that is over 18 also?

No, it means that you mom can tell you that you need to be home, except to go vote (your right at 18), go to school and go to work - and for you not be out galavanting till all hours of the night. That means that your mom can keep health insurance for you, continue to receive child support (if parents aren't married) to help with your support.

It's this little implied contract here: follow mom's rules and all is well with the world.

suggestion here: generally it's much cheaper to live at home, than to get a job and support yourself while going to high school.

no it means that age of majority emancipation and release from subjection of your parents, and all of the fun responsibilities that come with it, like supporting yourself for instance, won't happen until you graduate.

So, legally my mom can still call the police on me for being out late or not coming home? With the job, I need and want to keep it, but now at 17 she can make me quit, can she still do that when I'm 18? And can my over 18 boyfriend be charged with stachatory rape by mother when I'm 18?

WHEN you are 18, non, mom can't call your employer to make you quit. But, mom could actually say 'asta luego' when you are 18 and you think that you are above the rules of the house.

Age of consent = 18 year old.

Parent set rules for children to help keep them from trouble. It looks like you are looking for trouble.

If I had my 28 year old son come home to live with me, guess what! I would also have rules in place that no, you don't come and go as you please, but have consideration of those who are keeping a roof over your head. That means that you do as your mom requests, or guess what ... convenience of opening up the refrigerator that was stocked by mom goes away ... you now have to PAY for your own place, etc.

Mom can and will dictate the rules of the house. It is NOT a democracy.

Ok, thank you.

I'm not some arrogent kid, my mom is bipolar and clinicaly depressed and I keep the fridge stocked thank you. She tried to make me quit because I refused to give her my paychecks when all she does is blow it. I've been taking care of my self since I was 13. I realize I can't do anything else for her so I'm ready to bounce. You have no clue how much this ****ing sucks for me, I'm trying to keep myself safe by not coming home every now and then. I dont need to give you anymore specifics to my situation, all I was looking for was exact information. If my mom said hasta luego, I would say muchas gracias, I've got places to go and people lined up to room with. Thanks for the info and parental adivce.

Once you are 18, yes, you can go. No, it's not running away - no ... police will NOT come and get you and drag you home. If dad is paying support, you may want to inform him so that it can legally be stopped.

My daughter also moved out of her custodial dad's house (didn't want to move to Florida with me) BEFORE she graduated. She too had friends where she could go until she left for college - was mom who moved her into her college dorm (not lovey dovey dad) ...

You do also have options ... if life is that bad, talk to a school counselor - they are there to advise students.

Wait, so now that I gave you a little personal info, the rules change?

So, I can legally move out? Sorry to keep asking the same question but I need to be for sure so I can start giving people answers on a lease.

I'm not sure where the other posters are getting their info, but once you turn 18, no one will force you to do anything. You are an adult. No law can delay emancipation until you graduate. That's BS.

If anyone tries to tell you this, simply tell them you are homeschooled. Whatever. Tying emancipation to graduation of high school is complete BS. If you have to, un-enoll yourself. declare yourself an adult and re-enroll if you have to.

Or declare yourself homeschooled - get your dad involved.
