What is the name of your state? OH

I got convicted of a DUI on April 3rd, 2007. October 3rd is coming up fast and I want to get my life back together. I received six months license suspension and 3 years probation.

When will I be able to get my record expunged? I've seen a lot of people have had to wait all 3 years of probation to get their record expunged. Is this really the case? Or will I be able to file for expungement soon? If not, what else can I do? I've been turned down for a great job at 20 bux an hour and I might have a chance again if I get the pardon or expungement. My life rides on this.

Next, it sounds like people are having success doing it themselves? Or are lawyers a better deal?

Thank you,

Scott

Background checks are a bustling new and unregulated industry. There are few rules, so an arrest record can still show up to prospective employers. I have begun disclosing it early on in the hiring process and immediately tell them that the record has been expunged and that it should thus not show up, but I want to start off being fully honest and open. Most often, HR people haven't a clue what expungement even means and this has worked for me.

Looks to me that you have to wait a year after the probation is up:

Being expunged doesn't mean you can lie about your past.
Yeah but my probation is 3 years (even though its misdemeanor)? Or are they just talking about a separate probationary period as to when people can and cannot file for sealing of records and not your probationary sentenced by the judge?

Nobody said anything about lying about my past. As I said, I called the company I was going to get hired at and they said if I got it expunged they'd give me a second chance for another interview. I hate how people automatically assume the worst. I'm not a bad person just because I have a DUI. Never assume anything :).

Secondly, I've been instructed by that same company to get it expunged and still mark that I have a misdemeanor but tell other companies immediately it was expunged.

Thank you for the info though, very much appreciated. Is the sealing of the record pertain to the same as expunging a record?

Thank you,

Scott

I also live in Ohio. Back in 1988 I had a DWI. I tried to get it expunged, but I was told they will not expunge DWI s. But the rules may have changed now.
