We have been renting this house for 5 years now. We pay on time, keep the place very clean, the yard very tidy, and never give them reason to complain. They told us they were selling this and gave us the option to buy, but we declined for several reasons. We knew they were going to sell but got a notice about a month or less ago (two days after telling us they were listing it). They stated that they have sold it and we needed to be out by the 30th of September. We've found a place but it won't be ready till the 15th of Oct. We asked for a 2 week extenion (with rent for that time of course) and we were told that we needed to be out by the 30th. This is from our landlord. Her son and daughter in law were suppose to purchased it, even though no one has been by to look at it. We have not gotten any letter of eviction from them (her son). Can they do that? Do we have a right to stay just 2 weeks longer with rent due them for that 2 week time?
Any help would be great.

They did ask us to sign a notice that we would be out but we did NOT sign it.

It was close to 30 days ago. I'll admit that. When my ex and I purchased a home many years ago, in our contract we were to get paid a pro-rated amount of money from the time we settled till the time the old owners could leave. I was just wondering if this was still so. We have no lease with landlord at all. We do understand we should pay for the 2 weeks but the thought of renting a uhaul to load, unload, load and unload after just two weeks is crazy! We have a place to stay..that's not an issue...it's just crazy that they say they are selling and her children JUST happen to buy it the next day. Sorry

It makes no difference WHY the LL wants you out. Maybe he doesn't like the color you dyed your hair. Maybe he doesn't like the way you say "chowder". So long as he is giving you the required notice, then you have to move.

Of course, if he is getting rid of you based on some sort of illegal discrimination (ie: Race), then it would not be legal. But, that is not the case at all here.
