I don't know what state you all live in, but here in Missouri things are different with high risk pregancies. My daughter-in-law miscarried one of her twins during her second trimester. A year later she became pregnant again, and this time her OB set her up with an OB specialist in Columbia, who over sees high risk pregnancies. Also, my girlfreind, who lost her baby during her last trimister became pregnant again, she is now seeing an OB specialist in Kansas City. These were both miscarriages that happened the first time they even became pregnant.
It falls on deaf ears here. It is more important to longsally to "prove" she is right than to offer patients accurate information on where they can find specialized health care. You can call most specialists office's now and make an appointment without a referral if you think you need one. Most of the major hospitals have a nurses line established to help you determine which department you'll need to see. Alot of insurance companies offer websites that help you find a specialist in their network. It's important that people know this, especially when they feel they arent receiving the healthcare they need. There is also absolutely nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion when you are in doubt or uncomfortable with your diagnosis.

It IS true that a single first trimester miscarriage, in an otherwise young and healthy woman, with no other risk factors, is NOT enough to justify going to a high-risk OB. You could consult one of course, but she would probably tell you the same thing - you are not a high-risk patient and you should see a regular OB. Jypsy's friends probably had other risk factors; a late-term miscarriage is different then one in the first trimester, and just the fact that the other person had conceived twins in the past could be considered a risk factor.

Love it

Talk about deaf ears. Everyone on this thread agrees with me and cassann cannot stand it and keeps coming back to post the same thing OVER and OVER and OVER again.

Gypsy rose, both of your friends miscarried LONG after the first 12 weeks. That only happens in 1% of pregnancies. That WOULD be enough for someone to see a high risk ob.

Cassann feels that the op who had NO LESS than 5 sonograms, blood work and exams was ill treated because she was not send to an high risk OB's office during her miscarriage which occurred in the first 12 weeks making the fetus NON-VIABLE.

I am loving the inaccurate, misleading and jusr plain stupid posts of this woman however and look foward to the next attack!!!!!

My sister-in-law just had a D&C because she miscarried. She asked if she was now considered high-risk. Her doc told her hell no. Why? Because MANY women miscarry early in their pregnancies. She found out that the baby wasn't developing at 6 weeks.

ROFL You crack me up !!!! Im not mad nor attacking, just highly amused at the RN who thinks she is a Dr. Each time you post, you only show your true colors more and more. You take things out of context, you do not read posts before you make comments, it's amazing!
If you read my original post, you'll find where I told her that her OWN OB should have brought her in sooner when she started having problems.

Im so sorry for your loss

2. Miscarriages can be caused by a variety of reasons and can be prevented, contrary to what the "RN" told you. However, you need care from a high risk OB or reproductive endocrinologist, ER Dr's are not trained to find and treat these problems, responsibility goes back to your own OB.
I'd love a citation that states ALL miscarriages can be prevented. I am finding information that certain types of miscarriages MAY be prevented, but nowhere do I find that ALL mascarriages can be prevented. What about when I was hit hard by the vehicle behind me. I was stopped at a light, and he was travelling a high rate of speed. My sister in law recently had a D&C. She was told that her miscarriage could not be prevented. I suppose we had stupid docs.

I successfully avoided a threatened miscarriage in 1998 because I was referred to a high risk OB by the emergency room Dr and he worked me into his office the next morning. I had low progesterone levels and the lining of my uterus was not thick enough to support my pregnancy until the placenta takes over around 13 weeks. He (the OB) prescribed progesterone in suppository form and the contractions and bleeding stopped and my son was saved.
A placenta previa can also be successfully treated, but again you need a High risk OB with experience in dealing with those kinds of problems. Im am so sorry for your loss, its a terrible ordeal to go thru. My advice to you if you decide to become pregnant again- find and establish a relationship with a high risk OB before you concieve so he/she is just a phone call away in case you develop any problems. Good Luck!
You've listed 2 types of miscarriages that can be prevented. What about the rest?

dont waste your time

forget it Moburkes, she is only here to attack and keep up the arguing. She has never given any relevant or legal advice yet, only about her own experiences and what she personally thinks should hav been done. Don't waste your breath.

You're right. Which is why I stopped at her first post, and didn't break them ALL down, like I was preparing too.

Thanks.

her insurance accepted .

I have yet to read where OP went anywhere near a real doctor's office, much less seeing an acutal doctor(she went to the clinic) and seems like the only time she had any professional care was when she went to ER (where she seemed to expect Princess treatment:confused:).

OP I am sorry you experienced this. One year ago next week I lost a pregnancy, my only pregnancy I will ever have a chance to have. I had NO pain what-so-ever.

Awwwwwwwwwww, tammy8, I didn't know. I'm sorry to hear that. Next week (as I'm sure all weeks are) will certainly be difficult for you.

I'll be moving near you within the next 8 weeks!

im sorry

I am also sorry to hear that tammy. It is a terrible thing to lose a child. If you read my original post, I had 10 pregnancies and only 2 live births. I can feel the pain and it never really goes away. Just keep trying. Thats what I did.

Hey, ladies, I cannot even begin to imagine wanting to give birth to a child so much that you would endure 10 pregnancies, and "only" 2 live births. I can't imagine. I can't imagine what that feeling feels like. I can't imagine that you ever "forget" what you went through...(I hope that made sense).

I'm not sure, though, LS, that tammy8 has the "opportunity" to be pregnant again - I got a different impression from her post.

Anyway my orginal point is, you can not guarentee any child being carried to term ever. It is sad and no reason to blame anyone, especially if you can not get or afford the care you need. Again I am so sorry for your lose.
