What is the name of your state? California

I've been with my girlfriend for over 6 years now and we do plan to get married once one of us finishes school. We both have full-time jobs and go to school. We've been living together the past year. We want to do the whole traditional church thing but that won't be for probably another 2 years or so. I'm wondering if there are any financial advantages or any advantages for that matter to being married as we were thinking of doing a quick court house wedding and then a traditional one later when we're ready. Any advice to this or should we just wait? We have no kids yet and currently live in an apartment.

Advantages: You've expressed your dying love for one another legally. You're able to collect on her social security one day. You're able to combine health insurance and auto insurance and renters/home insurance. You're able to file taxes together. You're able to share the same last name. You're able to say that you loved her enough to "do right" by her. You'll make her mother proud. You'll make her daddy proud.

You have health care rights, inheritance rights, rights at death to determine burial/cremation, automatic equal parenting rights if you have children -- shall I go on?

Yeah, that's true.

Plus, husbands tend to think they have some sort of say in how things are operated.  :p I can't imagine how they got to thinking that, but... ;)
I agree- that whole "king of the castle" fairytale crap....I can't believe they believe it!:D
