Hello,
I am a college student in the CSU system. I was wondering if a system that allowed students to post notes from their classes online was illegal. If such a system is legal, would it make it illegal to make revenue through ads on the website? I'd like to see this system turn into an easy way for students to get caught up who had to miss class or could not finish the notes. I DO NOT want to jump into this project, only to be told to shut it down or get in trouble with my school. Thanks for your help with the situation.

**A: why would you want to do such a thing?

So that kids that missed class could simply go online and get caught up. So that kids who are deaf and must pay attention to their interpreters instead of writing the notes from the board can have a copy. So that kids who sit in the back of the class and may not be able to see the notes can have a copy. So that kids who want to enroll in a class can get a feel for what they are getting into. Money. Umm, I guess that is all.

**A: what type of website ads are you talking about?

I'm not sure what you mean by what type of website. It would be free and publicly available. If it is legal I would like to put ads on, so I would be making money from that. If not, of course, I wouldn't.

**A: read my post again. And why are you not in class?

Oh, my bad. I am not in class because my last class ended at 9 and my next class doesn't start until 11.
They would be impression ads, for every certain number of times a page is viewed, you get a certain amount of money. Probably Google ads if you want specifics.

Probably something related to colleges, test prep, etc.. Google has you enter what your website is about and they match ads to its content.

I think this would be very worthwhile. Don't bother listening to homeguru because he isn't giving u practical advice.

Go see one of your teachers, preferably a department head. They will be able to give you an answer or point you in the direction of someone who can.

Which CSU school are you in? I went to SFSU and have contacts there and at CAL.

While there may not be a legal line to cross, the school and especially the instructors may frown on the matter some which may interfere with your plans. I would not do without consent of the instructors.
