difference between lawyer and representative?

What is the name of your state? WV. In January I will be reapplying for disability because I was just diagnosed by a rheumatologist as having fibromyalgia. I originally applied in August of 2005, but worked until December of 2005. I was denied clear through the process up until heading for district court, at which time a bonafide lawyer turned down my case. All along this journey I have had a REPRESENTATIVE as opposed to a LAWYER. My rep is well known in this area for winning cases, in fact has won two for people I know. She says I have a way better chance this time around because I'm changing my onset date to January 2006, because of my age (52), my diagnosis from a specialist, and the fact that I also suffer from depression & anxiety. Should I drop my REP and get a real lawyer? One more question: How on earth do I get my rheumy to be thorough with my record without actually asking her? Thanks for any replies.

Representatives are not lawyers (as you know) but you do not have to be a lawyer to practice before the social security administration.

It's up to you.

If you like the representative, use that representative.

If not, get a lawyer.

You should be open and honest with your Dr's,your Rhummy will have a big impact on your case ,will be contacted by the SSA .I cannot see any reason not to discuss your application with the Rhummy,his/her reports will be the yes/no in your case.
