What is the name of your state? CA

What are the obligations of the members of a closing USMC Reserve Unit? They say if our first contract isn't up, then we are obligated to "Volunteer" ourselves into another unit... However, I am unsure of this obligation to do so... I personally would love to join a nearby Naval Unit as I have seen Navy boys in the Marine units... I just want to be sure, as when I got out of boot camp my orders were messed up, I was sent to the wrong place, and when they found out I was sent to the wrong place they said I HAD to go to the "right place" because it was the job I, as a reservist, signed for...
Thanks,
Chris

If your unit is closing, you have a duty to find another position locally to serve out your contract.

I would advise doing this.

The other option is to do nothing... But you are then at the whim of the Corps as to what your new duty position would be. I bet there's an 0311 slot sitting out there just itching to be filled.

Now, if there are no more positions in the local commuting area for your MOS, you can apply to fill a vacancy in another MOS. It's all up to the Corps whether they grant you retraining.

As long as you are proactive, accommodations can be made... Basically, if you do everything you can do appease them yet there is nothing available in the local commuting area, they can grant you a transfer to the IRR.

What us USMC Reserve policy on acceptable commuting for Reservists? I know the Army Reserve will feel free to assign you to a new unit within commuting distance if you don't bother to find a new one on your own.

So pray tell, why are you even posting to a post without any free legal advice?
Please tell us.
It's called a "bump" post, being I was the original thread starter...

Anyways, I don't know what units there are for me yet, but I was really pulling to stay in the helicopter part of the military, and there's a Navy base right down the street... I'll go down there, talk to a few people and see what's available.

I'll repost later on my findings!!!
