What is the name of your state? TX

Ok, someone loaned me $1000. I don't really know too well. I have not been able to pay him back yet. He is now threatening me with his attorney saying he will sue for a judgement. Can he do this? I never signed anything. This was all verbal. Please help.

Why should he be lenient? He let you use 1,000 of his dollars. Now you come up with excuses as to why you can't pay him back. Pay what you owe, or wait until the court orders you to pay. Either way, you'll end up paying.

Honestly, I'm not saying that to be "harsh" - just being honest.

I understand that you are not being harsh. And these are not excuses...they are just things that happened that caused me to delay getting it back to him faster.....if it were you, what would you reccomend?

I'm no attorney, but it would seem to me that since he was willing to loan you the money without a contract or written agreement, there must have been some level of trust there at some point. So it would seem to me that he would be willing to accept some kind of payment plan....even if it's 10.00 a week or something to start off with. It appears that you have destroyed that trust if he is at the point of taking you to court....my guess is, it's because you just avoided him, just blew him off, or worse yet, challenged him to sue you thinking he didnt have a leg to stand on without a contract.

At this point, he has every right to want to take you to court, so maybe put yourself in his shoes and think about what you would do in his situation, and what it would take to make you happy in his situation.
