We have lived in this apartment complex since July 2005. We have a dog & a cat. I signed a new 1 year lease, with the secretary... NOT the apartment manager, in August. At that time, I asked where the paperwork on the pets were and was told that it was all in our file and that the lease I was signing was "All Inclusive", which I took to mean that the pet rent was included. I was paying the same amount I had paid the previous year.
I get notice, on my doorjamb, that our November pet rent ($20) has not been paid. Well, I have paid the rent that was stated in our lease for the last 4 months... which we are NOW being told included our rent INCREASE, not the pet rent fee.
At no point during the signing of the lease OR at any point over the last 4 months has anyone mentioned that there was a rent increase or that the pet rent was separate until this notification.
Could the lease be considered Null & Void since there was no notification whatsoever of a rent increase?
Although this seems to be such a small matter ($20), this is but another problem we have had with this apartment complex. Between the HUGE turnover of staff (5 maintenance members, 8 secretaries and 2 apartment managers since July 2005), invasion of property without notification and miscellanous fees, I would like nothing better than to get out of this lease before my husband leaves for Afghanistan.
