What is the name of your state? TX

Ok, I just got back from yet another worthless child support hearing with the OAG. This time I was told yet again that until they are able to serve my ex, there is nothing they can do. Never mind the fact that my ex has not seen his child in five years, nevermind my ex has never paid a dime in support and currently owes over $16k in arrears!!

I need some advice....what can I do?? My ex has been ducking the process server and his family has been lying for him saying they do not know where he is. There must be some other action I can take other than waiting for the OAG! Keeping in mind, that I do not have a lot of money to spend....any thoughts???

Thanks in advance!!

Try supportkids.com. I think they keep a percentage of whatever they recover but it is better than nothing.

at this point can't you ask your lawyer if your case justifies requesting service by publication?

Well, I do not currently have a lawyer....cannot really afford the retainer, but the OAG lawyer I spoke with said that they had to serve him or nothing....can they serve through publication??

Support Kids

I've been in your boat- TX OAG- unable to serve, nothing we can do, blah blah blah.

I called support kids to get some information- and basically what they told me was if the NCP didn't own his home, didn't have SOMETHING they could attach to, there wasn't a whole lot they could do.

I know that support kids will harass an NCP like a bill collector, and harass his family and that alone almost makes me want to try and do the 70/30 (they keep 30% of whatever they collect). The woman I talked to was very nice, wasn't trying to give me a line about what they can do- and so I just will deal with what it is.

What is unfortunate in Texas is the "good ole boy" attitudes that the law enforcement has when it comes to guys who are deadbeats. They will NOT go out on a warrant, for example. You have to hope the NCP gets stopped in a traffic ticket situation, or something. But without inital service, they can't get a warrant.

It sucks, I know.

Yeah, I have thought about Support Kids too....just so maybe something could be done that I would have proof of.....but I know he does not have anything at all they could attach it to. Ah, well....makes me just want to give up. :(

"Bankruptcy does not get rid of all debts. You are still responsible for:

* Alimony
* Child support
* Most recent back taxes
* Most student loans ...."

I was under the impression though that going through an agency like Support Kids turns child support into a debt that they can write off....is that not right???

Thanks for the links!

I believe that one these companies get involved, it goes from 'child support' protection to just a bill.
That is what I thought.....any other ideas people?? Auuggh, I am so tired of a world where people have children and then just write them off....:mad:

Unfortunately, when a person would prefer to live life under a rock, it will most likely require SOME money to apply enough "pain" to persuade them to comply.

Sometimes, we just have to move on with life and accept that we can't "make it right", right now. Using the "web detective" idea that somebody mentioned before would allow you to focus your energy on more productive activities while being able to double-check every few months to see if the other parent has surfaced.

Good luck.

You are right, of course, Inquiry. I was just just still running off adrenaline yesterday after that hearing. I can live with just waiting...although, it is wrong.....but what will be will be.
