What is the name of your state? Michigan

I am receiving calls asking me to have my sister-in-law call them back - they are apparently calling me because I was a reference for her getting a car. I'm going to assume that she is behind payments on her car. If they continue to call me, do I have any legal standing to tell them to stop considering 1) this is not my debt and 2) I never even gave her permission to use me as a "reference"?

TIA!

To be honest, I don't want to get involved whatsoever. I'm not her secretary. ;) Maybe they'll never call me back, I don't know, just curious if I'm able to say "Stop" if they continue.

Of course you can say "stop". Or you can say "call her at..." one is more effective than the other, but I'll leave it up to you to figure out which ;)

(Oh - you can thank SIL for you "getting involved". Don't blame it on the CA)

I'm not blaming the CA. The gentleman was very polite and professional, I understand he's doing his job. I would love to just say "Here's her new number" (which I suspect she recently changed for this very reason) but it would cause nothing but drama and I don't really want to deal with it. I hope they get what they're after - just wish I didn't have to get involved for it to happen.

If I were to say "Here's her new number, but you didn't get it from me", would they honor that request? lol I don't care if they have it, just don't want her coming after me and ripping me a new one for it, kwim?

They don't care how they get it. Shoot they may even have it already and she just doesn't answer her phone -- but here is the law:
§ 804. Acquisition of location information
Any debt collector communicating with any person other
than the consumer for the purpose of acquiring location information
about the consumer shall—
(3) not communicate with any such person more than once
unless requested to do so by such person or unless
the debt collector reasonably believes that the earlier
response of such person is erroneous or incomplete and
that such person now has correct or complete location
information;
So if you simply give them your SIL's contact info - they won't call you again.
