What is the name of your state? Louisiana
I have a house that has been rented to a seemingly decent young man for 3 months. I have discovered through his AA-partner that he has a drinking problem; and he called him last week to say he had fallen off the wagon, going to rehab (whatever that means). I spoke to the renter last on 2/4/08 via email; he sounded cheerful, said he would have the rent that afternoon. Since then he will not respond to email, his phone is disconnected (although utilities in house are paid up), his parents cannot contact him, we found he was fired 5 weeks ago (has been making up stories about his work to us and maybe his parents too). Here's the catch: we live 1200 miles away. We have some friends there who will help us somewhat, but am feeling a trip to Louisiana may be in the very near future. I don't want to drive there, then have him pop up and say, oh, everything's okay now. What can we do right now and from a distance?
