What is the name of your state? CA

Does anyone know if I can file a lawsuit for an accidental death that occured in Texas even though I live in California? The individual involved was my mother.

She went in for a routine surgery, came out fine, but during recovery, she was given two shots of morphine, one by accident, which put her in a coma and eventually she died. She lives in Texas, and I live in Ca. I was told by someone that I may not be able to file a lawsuit since I do not have TX residency. I just wanted to know if that was true.

I'd suggest you stop getting your legal advice at the coffee shop and go see a medical malpractice lawyer in California.
