What is the name of your state? California
Does a meter maid have the right to run your plates if you have current registration on your car?
I woke up today to my neighbor telling me that my car was being towed away. I went outside the Meter man said I had outstanding tickets (that DMV did not know about). I told him that I have current registration on my car that i got 2 months ago and have not received any tickets in the last 2 months. He towed it anyways.
I asked him why he singled out my car and he said it did not matter, I called around town to find out about these tickets. I did have tickets for street cleaning that were unresolved. "I received no notice about a tow" I said and more importantly why doesn't DMV know about this, I paid my registration under the influence that it included all my parking debt. How was I suppose to know about 5 street cleaning tickets that were turned into DMV over the past 2 months of me getting my registration...How is that fair to me?
My question: Can a meter maid randomly check a persons plate if their reg. is current? isn't it the same as a search and seizure without a warrant or justifiable cause? Wouldn't this be considered harassment? Or is it just some new law that is not know to the public like most of them. How can i protect myself and family from laws that are not informed to the public. Do we the people have protection for US?What is the name of your state?

Depends on what it was 'run' for.
If to get the owners information to arrange a date, no.
If for any other VIABLE reason, yes.

Who said anything about 'fair'?? The only question is... Do the tickets exist against your vehicle? If yes, then the tow was legal.

Yep.

I am not aware of any Constitutional right to avoid the penalty for failing to pay your traffic tickets by re-registering your car.
