My son recently ordered a fake doctor note package from some website. He didn't confirm it with me before hand -- I wouldn't have approved! He submitted it to a college class and was automatically failed from the class when the professor did some research and proved it it was a fake.

Although I am deeply disappointed in my son, I'd like to get the site losed down, or possibly sue the owner of the site. Isn't this (selling fake doctor notes) illegal?

Throughout the site, it says that they're novelty documents, and they are for entertainment use only, etc. etc., btu the notes came signed (by artificial doctors) and looked very authentic.

They are templates that allow you to fill in blanks. From what I see, they're not impersonating any real medical establishments or doctors, but they provide all of the materials to do so.

Could I ever have a case against them? Isn't this (selling pre-made doctors notes) illegal? Or is it the submission of the notes (to professor) that is illegal?

You COULD counsel your son as to why HIS actions were so wrong. Forget the web site. Kids have been doing this for AGES! It has nothing to do with the web.

I think that if your son is in college, then he is an adult who needs to grow up and handle his own business.

He didn't check with mommy before he bought the fake notes, right? ;)

Yes I understand that this is rediculous he tried to pull this stunt. I guess I am equally as mad at the site though -- and the bad karma it creates.

Ok I do understand I probably cannot sue the site.. but how can this be in existance?

Isn't selling a signed note illegal? or is it not since the all info is fictitous??

You should NOT be "equally" mad at the site. You should be 99.99983217% mad at your son, and the rest at...well, the rest at your son!

I will refrain from commenting on why your son would have thought this was ok in the first place...

I guess going after the company is a bit wrong on my part.. but I am just shocked there are such sites.. I mean, I realize there are shady sites on the internet.. I guess the idea is rather SMART but i dont see how such a site has not been taken down by now..

There is no internet "police" to take down sites like this.
Look, face facts...kid have been faking notes (doctor, parent, etc etc etc) since formalized schooling began. The problem is not where they get the paper and pen from...

Thanks Zinger --

So you're saying that a website can sell anything and its not really a crime until its printed and used?

Like a website could sell printable US money?

I mean, where is the line drawn?

I'm not speculating on the possible legality of any site on the internet doing or selling anything. What I'm telling you is that, in YOUR case, the web site is not the entity to be held accountable.

Delores55 it's true, Zigner is 100% right, but like so many here who have lost their coddling skills and totally forgotten how to treat people with the loving kindness most normal people seem to expect, you just get shot between the eyes with the information and are expected to accept and understand it without question. :)

Yep your baby screwed up and is paying the price unfortunately, it's just a part of life we call a "learning experience." I agree with you though, places like that should not be legal, I'm not sure why they are, or even if they truly are. For a long time you could even buy fake college and high school diploma's on the internet, well I see you still can .. I really don't understand why that's legal either.

Good luck, I hope your baby learned!
