How many times the OB? Once a year is normal -- more if the child is using birth control of some type and/or sexually active.
ESPECIALLY if she is at greater risk for heart/circulatory problems if she is being prescribed hormone based contraception or is being treated for severe PMS or depression.

Further, if she is active in sports, it is recommended that all kids have a baseline EKG before participating (witness the rising number of kids dropping dead on the court or field when they participated in sports or strenuous activity. The majority of those children had an undiagnosed heart condition)

Is this Mom taking her child to more doctors than I take mine? Yes. However, when my kids are older, whose to say that I won't be taking them to many of the same type and number of appointments?

Exactly. And it's great that the Doc's and schools are requiring an EKG prior to sports. When the oldest was a cheerleader in High School one of the girls collapsed. Ended up this girl had a heart problem...

I'm glad that I was persistent about Lil Bit with the Doc.. Ended up finding out about the minor heart problem she has. Now we can take the necessary steps to insure her good health.:)

Mom cannot just convince a doctor to schedule tests -- unless the doctor is trying to commit malpractice. The doctor apparently thought it was a good idea.
Sure she can, if she's like one of those people who insist on antibiotics for viral infections. Some physicians will give in if you scream and fuss enough.

I agree SOMETIMES Docs and Moms do this. However, what would the OP's stance be if Mom was on the opposite end of the spectrum? (Didn't take the kiddo to the doc when the kiddo really needed it)?

Methinks this has to do perhaps as much with the $$$ spent as the thought that Mom is taking the kiddo to the Doc excessively.;)

I regret posting here. I guess free advice means anything from legal advice to unwarranted opinions. Thank you for those who have given me legal advice in the past, I truly appreciate it.

OP, I think the point is -- and often is -- that legal advice is RARELY advice in a stricly LEGAL vacuum -- ie. not just citing statutes and case law. You can point the gun in any direction you want if you have unlimited time, money, energy, and patience in a judge for motions brought before him. If that's not the case, "legal advice" will always also be tempered by common sense, sage advice, etc.

Here is an example:

Daughter did track last year, at the beginning daughter complained her legs were sore from running. Mom said it's probably shin splints and scheduled an appointment with an orthopedist. Dad was at appointment also, doctor said well, your legs will be sore if you just started, but if it continues we might have to do some tests. A week later mom notified dad that daughter was having a bone scan in a few weeks. How the mom convinced the doctor to schedule it, who knows.

If my child has pain that lingers....bet your butt the Dr will be called.

For example.....

My son has been sick a lot this year. DEC07-May08. His Dr scheduled a test to test for Cystic Fibrosis. Thank god he tested neg.

Dr scheduled this. I notified dad. son had the test.

If my ex, ever question my concern or my roll in our childs health I'd pop a cork.
If his female ever stuck her nose into it I'd really lose it.

Tests are tests. Usually a referal is needed to see a specialist.
.
another example.
My daugher had a nose bleed that lasted 56 Minutes. I took her to the Dr. Yes for a nose bleed.

Turns out my duaghter has a bleeding disorder called Von Welabrand.

If my child is showing signs or complains of illnes or pain I will take them to the Dr. Some years there are more visits than others.

Tell dad as long as his child is healthy, and kept that way... that is what matters;)

Legaly dad can try and prove mom takes the child to unnessary visits.....however good luck proving it.

Exactly!!

And considering the OP is the next wife. It doesnt surprise me that she is here Questioning what can Be done "legaly" to stop or limit the ammount of visits her husbands child has with her DR.

Also who cares if the childs appointments fall on dads day. Work it out. Either dad takes the child, or mom keeps the child and takes her to the appointment. Simple.:)

If she doesnt like the fact that dad may have to pay half of the medical on his child, She should have never married a man with children.
